One thing that Devin and I would grab in the case of an emergency is our wedding album. (After our cat, Dior, and hedgehog, Nugget, of course!) It holds all of our special moments from our wedding and lives on our coffee table. We thumb through our album quite regularly to re-live our special day.
Wedding albums are an integral part of your wedding photography experience. You invest in your wedding photographer so you will have documentation of your big day. A wedding album helps you keep that investment.
Why should you have an album? A wedding album is your first family heirloom and will be passed down throughout the generations. I can not stress enough that you need to print your wedding images! 10 years from now your online gallery will be expired, the USB with your images will more than likely not be easy to access (remember when all computers came with a disk drive and now hardly any do and let's not talk about floppy disks, I know some of you are like me and have tons of floppys that you can't access anymore!), and you may have even lost your USB. If you still have it and tuck it away in storage when your children, grandchildren, and other family member run across it years on down the road they probably will not know what it is and will, gasp, toss it out! The images from your wedding that you have stored online will either be lost or compressed for resolution. If you get a high quality professional album and take care of it, it will last for generations and will be saved and treasured by your descendants. Just think of your parents and grandparents albums, you always look through them during family events and remember the good times. Think of the stacks of photos that are passed down through generations so everyone can remember their ancestors. This is what your wedding album will become!
Why get an album through your wedding photographer? The album you purchase through your wedding photographer will be a professional, archival, high quality album. This will let your images look true to color and your album will last years if it is taken care of. Ordering albums from Shutterfly, Blurb, Zno, and the others will last you a while but after a year or so and so many uses they start to fall apart. (If you want to see examples of this, I have sample albums from those labs to show you how bad the quality is after a couple of years.) You want your wedding album to be an album that will last to be passed along to future generations.
