Monday Wedding Madness: What To Wear for Engagement Portraits

Today on Monday Wedding Madness we will discuss what to wear for your engagement session.

1. Wear something comfortable and that is you!

The number one thing that I tell my clients is to wear something that is comfortable and that represents you. You want your engagement session to be a reflection of who you are and who you are as a couple. Going and buying an outfit for your engagement session that is going to be uncomfortable or that is something that you wouldn't normally wear is not going to produce the kind of images that you are wanting.

2. Avoid Small Patterns

When choosing your outfit try to avoid small patterns if at all possible. This goes for plaid too! Small patterns do not read well on camera. Bigger patterns/plaid print are better.

3. Accessorize

Accessories and layers are your friend! They help make the photos fun, colorful, and personalized to you. However, remember point number one, if you don't normally wear accessories or layers don't feel like you need to incorporate this in.

4. Two Outfits

Two outfits is the norm for engagement portraits. One outfit on the dressier side and one outfit more relaxed and casual.

5. Coordinate Your Outfits

This does not mean MATCH your outfits. You will want to make sure that your outfits coordinate well. You do not have to wear the exact same color or pattern, but having outfits that compliment each other is best. Also, you will want to make sure your outfits are equal when it comes to how formal your attire is. If the bride is in a little black dress and heels then the groom shouldn't be in a graphic t-shirt and jeans.

6. Consider Your Wedding Colors

This is completely optional, but something to consider. If you are planning on using some engagement portraits on your Save The Dates or around your wedding decor, you may want to make sure your outfit color goes with your wedding colors.

7. Have Fun!

Don't be afraid to wear or do something outside of the box. Your engagement session should be personalized to you so do and wear what is best for you as a couple!
