Tips For Engagement Photos With Pets: Wedding Wednesday

Tips For Engagement Photos With Pets Indiana Wedding Photographer Photography Indianapolis Lafayette

Are you planning on including your pet into your engagement session? If so, then today's Wedding Wednesday post is for you! Your pet is a huge part of your family and it's only natural to want to include them into a few of your engagement portraits. Maybe this pet is one that you and your fiancé got together or maybe it's going to become part of your blended family regardless, they're special and loved! Here are a few things to keep in mind when bringing along your pet for your engagement session.

Inform Your Photographer

The first thing you should do is let your photographer know that you will be brining a pet along. This will allow them to start thinking of how they will include your pet into your session, the best time for the pet, and the best location.

Keep Your Pet In Mind When Choosing Your Location

Don't forget about your pet when you starting thinking of the perfect location for your engagement session. You will want to avoid locations with lots of traffic and people and places that may not be pet friendly. You won't want to get turned away from a location who doesn't allow pets, or for your pet to be distracted by lots of people, and you certainly don't want your pet to happen to wrangle free on a busy street. Look for a more secluded location away from busy streets.

Bring Along A Helper

Have a friend or a family member come along to watch your pet. You won't want to have your pet in every single photo. Having someone who can walk your pet, give it some water/treats, and just keep them comfortable is the best. They can even bring your pet to you towards the end of your session or take them back home after you get photos with them. This will help you feel more relaxed because you know your pet will be taken care of.

Have A Leash Handy

Some locations require that pets be on leashes so you will want to make sure you bring one along. They will also keep your pet safe while walking from location to location. You can always slip off the leash for the portraits but you will still want to bring one.

Bring Water and Treats

Your furry friend will appreciate having water along especially if it's a hot day! Keeping them hydrated will help them stay happy and alert for photos. Treats are also a great idea in case your pet needs a little bribery!

Walk and Play With Your Pet Before The Session

Before your engagement session, take your pet on a nice long walk or give them a nice rigorous play session. This will help them get rid of some of their energy so they won't want to run around during your engagement session.
