Your wedding day is a special occasion where you get to celebrate your love with family and friends. One of the most cherished memories of the day are your family portraits. A well-planned family portrait list can ensure that all the important people in your life are captured in your wedding photos, making it a cherished memory for years to come.
Below are a few tips to help you make your wedding day family portrait list.
1. Decide Who You Would Like A Formal Portrait With
Start by making a list of all the important people in your life, including your immediate family, extended family, and close friends. These are the people that you would really like to have a portrait with.
2. Prioritize You List
Once you have made a list of all the people you want to include in your family portraits, it's time to prioritize. Consider who is most important to you and who you want to have featured prominently in your photos. You will want to start pairing down your list so you have about 15 different groupings. 15 groupings will take around 30 minutes to photograph.
3. Plan For Logistics
When planning your family portraits, consider the logistics of the day. Will everyone be at the same location? Will you need to arrange transportation for some people? It’s important to plan ahead so that everyone is in the right place at the right time for the portraits. I always recommend saving your family portraits for right after the ceremony since everyone will be in the same place at the same time.
4. Assign A Point Person
Assigning a point person can help ensure that everyone is in the right place at the right time for the family portraits. This person can help keep everyone organized and on schedule, making the process much smoother for everyone involved. They will help your photographer gather people together for the different groupings since your photographer will not know who everyone is.
5. Communicate With Your Photographer
Make sure to communicate your family portrait list to your photographer well in advance of the wedding day. This will give them enough time to plan and prepare for the portraits, ensuring that they capture all the important moments. Your photographer will read off your family portrait list so make sure they have this and can schedule the time that's needed for how many groupings you have.
6. Be Flexible
While it’s important to have a plan for your family portraits, it’s also important to be flexible. Sometimes, things don’t always go as planned, and it’s important to be open to making adjustments if necessary. Maybe someone left the ceremony and headed to the reception before the photos happened and you'll need to take those photos later in the day.
Creating a family portrait list is an important part of your wedding day planning process. By following these tips, you can ensure that all the important people in your life are captured in your wedding photos, making it a cherished memory for years to come.
