Top Tips For Setting Up The Perfect Dance Floor: Wedding Wednesday

Wedding Dance Floor Indiana Wedding Photographer Photography Indianapolis Lafayette

You want your dance floor to be a busy place, where friends and family come together to bust a move and sing their hears out. It's an often overlooked place that offers an area for memories to be made and bonds to be strengthened. But not all dance floors are equal, and there's many elements that can be customized and adjusted to suit your event.

Whether you're hiring a live band or a DJ, let's take a look at some top tips for setting up the perfect dance floor.

Make sure there's enough room

Venues should be able to tell you how much available space they have for your dance floor, but be sure to also ask how much room there is for a live band. Large bands require a considerable amount of space, so bear in mind that this may eat into some of your dance space.

Talk to your event planner to ensure you book the right size band for your venue. If indoor space is limited, and you're planning a summer wedding, discuss the options of having the dance floor outdoors instead to maximize space.

Pick the right location

Where you set up your dance floor is important- too close to the speakers means your guests will get a headache, yet too far away makes it difficult for the DJ or band to interact with the crowd. If the dance area isn't predetermined by your venue, aim for a space near the music but away from the traffic of the rest of the party.

Leaving seating areas in place both near and away from the dance floor also offers accessibility for less mobile guests who still want to party, and also a quieter area for those who prefer to sit and chat.

Jazz it up

Some dance floors have built in lights, which are pressure sensitive and can have multiple settings to jazz up your dance space. Little ones will love to chase the lights as they dance or run around in the early evening, and then when the older movers join in later on, the lights create a brilliant atmosphere.

You can also find dance floors in a wide range of patterns and colors, so it's easy to choose one to fit your theme. Be sure to not create any trip hazards with your decorations, and have enough lighting that everyone can still see clearly.

Don't overthink it

Whilst there may be more to setting up a dance floor than you first think, try not to overthink it. Whether you make your own dance floor or order one from your event suppliers, it's worth checking that everything is set up correctly and ready to go before your guests start using it. Most come in squares that slot together, but they need to be fixed securely to be safe to use, so check your plans with your venue.

By following these top tips, you're sure to have a ball and enjoy the night making shapes on your perfect dance floor.
