What To Wear For Your Engagement Session To Look and Feel Your Best

Your engagement session is more than just a chance to get beautiful photographs. It's an opportunity to celebrate this exciting season of your relationship and get comfortable in front of the camera before your wedding day.

One of the biggest questions coupe have is "What should we wear?".

The good news is that there isn't one perfect outfit. The best choice is something that makes you feel confident and feels like you.

Below are some tips to keep in mind.

Choose Comfort First

If you are uncomfortable in your clothes, it will show in your photographs. Choose clothing that allows you to move, walk, sit, and interact naturally with your partner. You don't need to wear something completely different from your normal style. In fact, wearing something that feels like you will help your photographs feel much more authentic.

Coordinate Instead of Matching

You do not have to wear identical colors. Instead, choose colors that complement each other. For example, sticking with a neutral or jewel tone color palette. Think about creating a cohesive look that compliment each other vs wearing the exact same color.

Consider Your Location

Your outfits should work with the setting of your engagement session. If you're taking photographs in a field or garden, soft colors and natural textures can look beautiful. For an urban session, you may choose something slightly more polished. If you're unsure, ask your photographer for suggestions, they can recommend outfits that will help you look elevated but still natural.

Bring Two Outfits

If you can't decide between casual and dressy, do both! Start with something dressier and then change into something a bit more comfortable and casual. This gives you two completely different looks and adds variety to your gallery.

With that said, don't feel like you must do two outfits. If choosing multiple outfits makes you sweat, choose one that you love!

Don't Forget The Details

Shoes, jewelry, watches, jackets, hats, and other accessories can add personality to your photographs. Just make sure they compliment the overall look and aren't too overpowering because you want to see you and not just your accessories.

Avoid Anything That Makes You Feel Self Conscious

If you hate wearing uncomfortable shoes, don't wear them. If the straps on your outfit keep falling down, you may not want to deal with that the whole session. The goal is to be elevated but comfortable and look like the best version of yourselves.

Think About Your Home and Wedding Colors

This is one of my favorite tips! Where do you plan to display your engagement photos? If you want large prints hanging in your home, consider choosing clothing colors that complement your home's style and color palette. If you are planning on using your photos at your wedding or on your Save The Dates, maybe you want to wear colors that match your wedding colors.

Your engagement photos can become beautiful pieces of art for your home or decor for your wedding, so think beyond social media when choosing your outfits.

Most Importantly, Be Yourselves

Your engagement session should feel like a date and not just a photoshoot. Go somewhere you love, wear something that makes you feel good, hold hands, and laugh together. Your photographer will guide you through the rest.

The best engagement photographs are the onles where you look at each other and think, "that's us."
