Do you know that the garter toss is one of the oldest wedding traditions and that it dates back to the Dark Ages!!!
It used to be customary for wedding guests to follow the bride and groom to their bedroom to make sure they made it safely and to wish them well. It was also supposedly good luck if you were able to get a piece of the brides clothing. Once the bride and groom made it to their bedroom, the guests would start pulling and ripping the bride's attire to get a piece for good luck. In that struggle, the garter would come off and whoever caught it was supposed to be the next person to get married!
Luckily wedding guests no longer follow the bride and groom to their bedroom but the garter toss still holds the same tradition, the person who catches it will be the next person to get married!
