I have always donated a portion of all of Jasmine Norris Photography sales each year to different causes. Giving back has always been a big part of my life and when I started my photography business, I knew I wanted to tie that into my business as well. I always give a portion of my donations to environmental causes because I believe that it is important to offset my carbon emissions and help keep our Earth healthy. The causes that are donated to change each year depending on the circumstances that may have happened that year (for example, some of last year donations were made to help with the wildfires in Australia) so this year included a few causes that aren't just environmental causes. Below are the organizations that were supported this year and this is because of each of you who support my business! Thank you for making this possible!
Carbonfund.org
This organization plants trees, fights deforestations, and invests in solar and wind power. They make it very easy to offset your carbon emissions that you make due to traveling, driving a car, living in your home, etc. I donated enough to cover my carbon emissions for the year for my business to offset things like me driving to weddings, flying to conferences, and using my computer, among other things.
NAACP
NAACP, The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, is a civil rights organization that helps advance justice for African Americans. A donation was made to help with their efforts with the Black Lives Matter movement.
ACLU
The ACLU, The American Civil Liberties Union, works in the courts, legislatures, and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to all people in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States. A donation was made to help with their efforts.
Home For Hope- Ferry Street House
Home For Hope is an amazing organization that is located right here in Lafayette, Indiana! They provide care, treatment, detox, etc for people suffering from alcoholism and drug addition. They recently acquired a historic Victorian duplex on Ferry Street that they are restoring and repurposing it to be used as a sort of halfway house for individuals who are rebuilding their lives. We were able to donate and sponsor one of the main windows of the house as well as a toilet and sink for one of the bathrooms.
LTHC
LTHC (Lafayette Transitional Housing Center) has been around since 1988 and is the central point of entry for all homeless services and helps the homeless come home. They not only have shelters but also provide lots of other services and resources for individuals and families who are struggling with homelessness. This year, I helped provide 25 backpacks filled with winter necessities such as hats, gloves, first aid kit, hand warmers, soap, toothpaste, snacks, socks, and a lot more. I lead the local TuesdaysTogether Lafayette group, which is a group for entrepreneurs, and we came together with the local photography group to purchase and fill these bags. It was a great group effort!
Feeding America
Feeding America has over 200 food banks that feed more than 46 million people. This year, we were able to donate meals to help feed several of those individuals.
G.L.I.T.S.
G.L.I.T.S. (Gays and Lesbians Living In a Transgender Society) is an amazing organization that provides crisis support, housing, necessities and more for transgender members. They provide around the clock urgent care for safety and referral for members in the NYC area, US, and globally.
